What are borehole surveys?

Borehole surveys can be divided into two main categories borehole logging which measures rock properties near the borehole and borehole surveys that measure rock properties near and to a significant distance from the borehole. The Volterra borehole system is the latter being very similar to a surface survey where the sensor is lowered down a borehole and measurements are taking in the borehole.

Its main use is to measure the response from targets that are too deep, small, or complex to identify with surface surveys and to aid in determining in what direction to drill next.
